Mission

The Heritage Alliance is dedicated to the preservation and promotion of the architectural, historical, and cultural heritage of our region.

Organizational History

The inception of the Heritage Alliance in 2001 actually stemmed from the merging of three different organizations, whose members carried out their organizations' respective missions, while finding many areas for cross-collaboration. Members of the Jonesborough Civic-Trust, the Jonesborough-Washington County History Museum, and the Historic Jonesborough Foundation that one organization, utilizing the skills and resources of each parent would ultimately better serve the needs of our community and the entire region as well.

Our Philosophy of Preservation

While most "preservation" organizations only include architectural preservation in their mission, we take the unique approach of defining preservation in broader terms.

The Heritage Alliance is among the first organizations in the nation dedicated to the preservation of architecture, artifacts, documents, and culture. We believe that blending these naturally related disciplines provides more opportunities and services to the region without resource-dividing duplication.

The Heritage Alliance is dedicated to advocating for the preservation of our region's architecture, developing innovative museum experiences that bring history onto our public streets, and providing technical support and educational opportunities to the region.

Our goal is to influence and encourage individuals, businesses, and local governments to actively participate in the nation-wide movement to revitalize, restore, and preserve the past that surrounds us.
