Progressive Dinner Celebrates 43rd Year on December 4th

The magic of Tennessee’s oldest town comes alive during the Progressive Dinner hosted by the Heritage Alliance. This year’s dinner takes place on the evening of Saturday, December 4th. Multiple seating times are available at 4:00 pm, 6:00 pm, and 7:40 pm.

Now in its 43rd year, the Progressive Dinner is a unique event, combining fine food, rich history, and great entertainment. Proceeds from the Progressive Dinner help ensure that the educational programs of the Heritage Alliance remain accessible to a wide range of audiences. Proceeds from this year’s event will help with preservation and maintenance projects at the Oak Hill Schoolhouse. Even though many students have been unable to visit the schoolhouse the past year and a half, the historic building still has needs.

This year, the evening begins at the Chuckey Depot Museum. This beautifully restored train depot is Jonesborough’s newest museum and it shares the history of the town of Chuckey and the railroad in Northeast Tennessee. The soup course takes place in a pre-Civil War frame house on Woodrow Avenue that was once a school. Dinner will be served at the McKinney Center at Booker T. Washington School, and dessert will take place in a beautifully restored home on East Main Street that has never been featured on the dinner before.

The Colors of Christmas Progressive Dinner has become a traditional start to the holiday season for many people throughout East Tennessee and surrounding states. Seasonal music by several of our area’s finest musicians, including the ever popular Jonesborough Novelty Band, gourmet food, memorable camaraderie and great fun are the hallmarks of this popular event.  This event typically sells out, so make sure you get your tickets today!

Ticket price is $100.00 per person and proceeds go toward the educational programs of the Heritage Alliance. Seating is limited. On-line ticketing through the Town of Jonesborough is available at jonesborough.com/tickets. You can also make a reservation by calling (423) 753-1010. If you would like to make a reservation for a table of 6 or more, please contact the Heritage Alliance directly.

The Heritage Alliance will continue to monitor CDC guidelines in regards to the Covid19 pandemic and events. If we need to cancel this event for health reasons, we will do so two weeks in advance.

Progressive Dinner Update

This is the time when we’re usually gearing up for the Progressive Dinner in December. Unfortunately, we have decided to cancel this year’s event. It was not an easy decision to make, but we know it is the best and safest decision. The Progressive Dinner is not gone for good, just on break for a year. We will miss seeing you in Jonesborough that weekend, but we hope you’ll visit us in 2021 for one of our new and exciting Summer Suppers.

This year has been one of growth and change for the Heritage Alliance and we’ve worked to adapt several of our existing programs and create new ones. Summer Suppers will launch in 2021 and will invite guests for an intimate meal on the lawn of a historic home. The evening will include local food, lovely music, and plenty of interesting history. More information on the suppers and specific dates will be announced soon. The best way to stay up to date with the Heritage Alliance is to visit our website and to follow us on Facebook and Instagram.

There are still several ways you can help support the Heritage Alliance, our educational programs, and preservation. Throughout the pandemic, the Heritage Alliance has worked to share and preserve local history, even when our buildings were closed to the public. We have increased our digital presence with virtual exhibits, virtual field trips for students, and educational web series on the Chester Inn Museum’s YouTube channel. We encourage you to check out these exhibits in our Digital Exhibit Hall on our website and to check out our new web series like “Homecooked History.” The Heritage Alliance will be participating in Giving Tuesday Now on Tuesday, December 1st. That day we’ll have a variety of virtual activities to connect with our audiences. Join us on December 1st from wherever you may be. The best way to support the Heritage Alliance and all we do is to become a Member. You can join via our website.
