Programs

The provision of a wide range of innovative educational programs provides an important counterpoint to the preservation and care of records in our Archives and the collection of material culture in our Museum. Our award-winning programs tell the stories of place, of people, and of life through the centuries.

The Oak Hill School Heritage Education Program is a four to five hour program that allows schoolchildren to experience an 1892-1893 one room schoolhouse classroom. Ordinarily geared toward fourth and fifth grade students and limited to 30 students at a time, this program can also be tailored for groups with other needs.

The History Hunt is a way for small independent groups to explore the streets of Jonesborough using historical maps and discovering the answers to a number of questions. This program is intended for grades 5 and up, and, since Heritage Alliance staff does not guide groups through town, group size is dependent on the number of chaperones.

The Behind the Cases Museum Experience is a great add-on to a visit to Jonesborough. Museum staff guide students through analysis of primary sources and allow them to see objects not usually on display. This program is adaptable for any age group but is limited to 30 students at a time.

All programs must be scheduled with the Heritage Alliance at least 2 weeks in advance by calling 423-753-9580.
