The Heritage Alliance of Northeast Tennessee & Southwest Virginia

The Heritage Alliance is dedicated to the preservation of the architectural, historical, and cultural heritage of our region and to providing educational experiences related to history and heritage for a wide range of audiences.

If You Don’t Watch Out

The Influenza Pandemic in and Around Washington County, September 1918-February 1919.

While the circumstances of the 1918 flu pandemic were singularly unique, community response and press coverage offer glimpses of familiarity to the response to the 2020 Covid Pandemic. This exhibit explores the impact of the 1918 flu pandemic and how the area responded to it while keeping in mind what our own response to an unfolding pandemic in the present looks like in real time.

The Heritage Alliance would not be successful without the generous contributions of our donors. Your contributions support all of our activities and help us serve a rapidly expanding audience.
