Curator/Archivist AmeriCorps Position
The Heritage Alliance is in search of an AmeriCorps participant to assist us with our archives and exhibits in the Jonesborough/Washington County History Museum. We preserve and study a vast array of historical artifacts in our permanent collection. This position would be trained on the PastPerfect museum system and would help us accession collections and process collections. This position would also help properly clean and organize archival and museum spaces. You would learn our digitization process and help us digitize our archival images and upload them to SentryFile platform for public use. You would help us mount exhibits in the Jonesborough/Washington County Museum as well as plan new exhibitions. You would be asked to help with school groups, especially if they were doing an activity in the Jonesborough/Washington County History Museum. The Heritage Alliance hosts a few large events each year, many of them fundraisers, and this position would be expected to help out on event days. The bulk of the work and job would take place in the Jonesborough/Washington County History Museum and our archives.
We are looking for someone who takes direction well. We need someone who can work as part of a team but can also take initiative and complete an assigned task on their own. Some of the time you would be working with a group, and sometimes you would be working on your own.
A degree in history and/or experience in the museum field is a plus, but not a requirement. An earnest interest in history is a requirement.
Preferred skills: database entry, word processing, research, organization, article writing.
This job will interact with the public off and on, especially students, so people skills are needed.
