True and Chilling Tales Tours in Jonesborough this October

Come and learn some truly chilling history in Jonesborough this October. Have you ever wondered what happened to horse thieves in the late 1700s, or wanted to know why Andrew Jackson fought a duel in Jonesborough? What about a body discovered in a rain barrel in town? What’s the story behind that? Hear these very true tales and more during this unique tour that’s perfect for an October evening.

 

The True and Chilling Tales Tour will take place at 7:00 pm on October 24th, 25th, 26th, 30th, 31st and November 1st. Your guide will lead you down Main Street with the “book of poor souls.” Mind your step, lest you end up in that book, too. Tickets are $10.00 and can be purchased through the Town of Jonesborough’s ticketing system at jonesborough.com/tickets. The tour will last an hour. Groups are limited to only 16 people, so make sure you buy your tickets in advance. The tours will depart from the Chester Inn State Historic Site and Museum on Main Street. The tours will go on rain or shine. This tour is rated PG-13 for content and is not recommended for children under 13 years of age. Please note these stories are very true and some of them are gory and unpleasant and may be upsetting or triggering. Listeners beware.

Chester Inn Museum Extends Town Tours for Summer 2023

The Chester Inn State Historic Site & Museum is currently on its summer/fall hours and is open Monday and Wednesday-Saturday from 11:00 am to 6:00 pm and on Sunday from 1:00 pm to 5:00 pm.

 

The Historic Jonesborough Town Tour is also expanding its hours for summer. In addition to the regular, Saturday afternoon (1:00 pm) tours, you can also take a Town Tour on Sundays at 3:00 pm starting Sunday, June 4th. Sunday Town Tours will be available every Sunday through the end of September to correspond with Brews & Tunes. Take a tour and then stick around for the music, food truck, and libations in front of the International Storytelling Center.

 

The Chester Inn Museum is also thrilled to announce the return of Thursday evening tours. These tours are perfect for a summer evening. Thursday evenings will take place at 7:00 pm on June 1st, 8th, and 22nd. All tours are $5.00 and tickets are available at the museum. Children eight and under are free.

 

The Old Jonesborough Cemetery Tours will be back, too, on Saturday, June 3rd. Cemetery Tours are available the first and third Saturdays of the month through October at 2:30 pm. Tickets for Cemetery Tours are $5.00. Proceeds from the Cemetery Tour help with the restoration of the historic tombstones. You can get a combo ticket for the Saturday Town Tour and the Cemetery Tour for only $8.00.

Church Walking Tours this Saturday in Jonesborough

The Heritage Alliance is excited to offer a new walking tour on Saturday, December 18th. As a part of Jonesborough’s Christmas Church Stroll, the Alliance will be offering Historic Church Tours at 11:30 am and 1:30 pm. These tours will lead guests down Main Street and will include the history of Jonesborough’s churches, interesting tidbits, and a chance to view their beautiful architecture from the outside. This tour will not take people inside the churches, but guests are welcome to look inside participating churches from 11:00 am – 3:00 pm that day as a part of the Town’s event.

 

Do you know which church was the first building in Jonesborough to be designed by an architect? Do you know who influenced the Baptist Church to purchase their bell? Which church has a historic chandelier, and how did the Civil War impact the churches in town? Learn all this and much more during the one hour tour. Tickets are only $5.00 per person and are available at the Chester Inn State Historic Site and Museum. The museum opens at 11:00 am that morning.
